When we accept a work for publication, we are purchasing first-publication rights. (Once we've published your story, you are free to, for instance, include it in your own collection). Competition submissions are also automatically considered for standard publication.

Submissions must be original and unpublished. Please, no novels, (screen) plays, or stories written for children.

Submission Guidelines:

-  While Transcurrent accepts simultaneous submissions, please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

-  Each fiction and non-fiction submission must not exceed 5,000 words (approximately 15 double-spaced pages). No more than two pieces of fiction or non-fiction may be submitted at once.

-  Although there is no word count limit for poetry submissions, please send no more than 5 poems at once.

-  All texts should be sent in 12 point Times New Roman font.

-  All prose should be double spaced.

-  For either form of submission (paper or electronic), please type your name, mailing address, E-mail address, and phone contact information in the upper left hand corner on the first page of your work(s).

Paper submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter. Click here to see a sample cover letter. Please note that the first line in the body of your letter must state the titles of the works you are submitting, each of their word counts in parentheses, and their respective genres. While you may include a brief bio at the end of your letter, please remember that brevity and clarity are key.

- In the header on each page of your work, please include your name, the title of the piece (abridged, if necessary) and the appropriate page number.

-  When submitting hard copies of work via snail mail, please include a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). Online submissions will receive responses via email.

-  Please allow 4-6 weeks for notification of acceptance or rejection. If you have not received a response after 6 weeks, please feel free to send an inquiry via email to the editor of the genre to which you submitted. Due to the large number of submissions Transcurrent receives, the editors are unable to provide individual responses or critiques.

Electronic Submissions:

-  Submissions sent via E-mail should be saved as a Microsoft Word (97-03) document (.doc).

-  Please send all online submissions to:

mail@transcurrent.org
with FICTION, NON-FICTION, or POETRY in the subject header.c

-  Please send each piece as a separate attachment; however, please send all pieces under one E-mail cover.
